The Frenchmen Dominated

World Rally Championship is considered the most famous annual racing championship event put-together by International Automobile companies around the world and from Japanese, European and American auto producers like, Toyota, Mitsubishi, Audi, Citroen, Ford, Peugeot, Fiat as well as others and headed by top rated racing drivers from all over the world and was inaugurated in 1973.

The competition comprises a number of terrains from off road to the urban closed roads and is a best-time-trial-per-track wins kind of competition. The prior years were both dominated by French Manufacturer Citroen and in collaboration with 8 time world champion Frenchman Sebastien Loeb who reigned over the track successively from 2004 up until last year. This year was the best leg Loeb had since he already won 7 out of 13. He bagged first place in races for instance Rallye Monte-Carlo, Rally Guanajuato Mexico and successively winning 5 Races from the last week of April Philips Rally Argentina up until the ADAC Rallye Deutschland which had been last week of August. The main lead is that on those occasions he didn’t win 1st place, yet he continued to be on top lists like the Rally Sweden where he positioned 6th and ranked 2nd in the Wales Rally GB.

Citroen mentioned that they have to live up to the expectations of other manufacturers, drivers and fan’s expectation that is exactly why they have the fleet management tracking vehicle system being updated each and every race this year. These vehicle tracking and fleet management enhancements have been their edge over others and is expected to be looked up by automobile manufacturers and engineers. Joint effort of American and European Ford Rally Team Engineers and innovators are also looking for other alternatives to either match up or overcome the French Citroen’s technology.

Last week during a Citroen event, Team Director Yves Matton of the Citroen Rally Team and his technical director Xavier Mestelan-Pinon showcased the most up-to-date gps fleet tracking software that will debut this October and will likely be utilized by their team in this coming Rallye de France – Alsace and in accordance with them a great edge for their navigators.

Meanwhile Finnish Jari Matti Latvala of Ford Rally Team currently in 2nd place is maintaining his position as Loeb’s runner up. According to him, he is aiming for another first place win or two to secure his 1st runner up title. Norwegian Mads Ostberg, another key rally driver of Ford Rally Team, is decided to surpass his Ford Rally Team co driver Latvala. He also has the same goal to get the same position following the remaining 3 rallies. Both of them are getting ready for the next event wherein the Champion and leading driver Loeb is on the advantage, since it is his kind of terrain which is Asphalt and he is a local. Latvala also mentioned that he is getting familiar with the fleet maintenance program of Team Ford and the off road tracks like Ice and most specially the Gravel which can be the second to the last event Rally d’Italia Sardegna. The finale is a mix gravel and asphalt terrain of Rally RACC-Rally de Espana.
